Requirements to Run for School Board

  • Be a registered voter
  • Reside in the district seat for which you are running
  • Submit a Declaration of Intent in person at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office on August 26, 2025, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM
  • Complete mandatory ethics and finance training upon election

About the Role of a School Board Member

School board members serve four-year terms and are responsible for:

  • Approving district budgets
  • Establishing district policies
  • Hiring and evaluating the superintendent
  • Representing community interests in public education

Note: This is an unpaid, nonpartisan elected position.
